Artist Statement

Mine is a simple practice, one that distrusts the strategies of marketing and advertising, even technology. Just based on observation, how can I make or facilitate something that reflects the experience of being human?

My work begins with using the senses: the usual five, as well as memory, intellect, instinct. The process is a kind of performance that involves the viewers, and what results are interactive portraits, an exploration of identity as a group project. It doesn’t matter whether its drawing, clay, performance, video, intervention...

Maybe it’s because my parents were immigrants and left so much of my history unknown to me, maybe it’s because our communications are so mediated by technology, that I use the creative process to literally and metaphorically to stay “in touch.”
