What is the minimal amount of space we need as individuals? In an article in the China Daily entitled “Ant Tribe in Shanghai, monthly income less than 3000 Yuan (500$) living space less than three square meters,” a photo caught my attention. It shows a living space that is smaller than a jail cell. Transforming a number on paper to something tangible brings about a different way of interpreting this fact. What would it feel like to live in three square meters? What does three square meters even look like?
