1) teach 3 courses a term; 2) teach undergraduate ceramics studio courses from introductory through advanced levels including Ceramics I, Ceramics II Wheel-Throwing, Ceramics III, Advanced Investigations in Ceramics and Foundations courses primarily for majors; 3) maintain and manage the Ceramics studio 4) work with the Foundations and Fine Arts area and departmental faculty to provide academic leadership and administrative oversight of ceramics studio and curriculum; 5) maintain a strong professional research agenda 6) provide departmental service 7) advise and mentor students within the major.
The Department of Art and Design offers a BFA in art education, fine arts studio, photography, and graphic design, and a BA in art history and visual arts. We focus on the development of skills and processes, concepts and contexts, critical thinking, and professional applications. Minimum Qualifications:
- MFA in Ceramics coursework complete with advanced progress on thesis and nearing completion from an accredited institution.
- Three years of college-level teaching experience in ceramics as instructor of record.
- Record of an emerging scholarly or creative research agenda with an active professional exhibition record.
- Expressed interest in curriculum development.
- Expertise in wheel throwing, hand-building, high and low fire processes, clay and glaze formulations, kiln firing techniques and maintenance, and related safety procedures. * Broad knowledge of the historical development of contemporary issues in the practice of ceramics.
- Conversant with and able to teach both functional and sculptural approaches to ceramics.
- Demonstrated ability to model excellence in teaching, to foster a stimulating classroom environment, and to challenge students in creative ways.
- Demonstrated successful experience maintaining and managing a ceramics facility.
- Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
- Articulated commitment to working successfully with a diverse, multi-cultural student body.

- Demonstrate a vision for the future of ceramics education.
- Successful experience developing a ceramics curriculum.
- Research emphasis in wheel-thrown processes.
- Willingness to engage in innovative practices in the teaching of Foundations courses.
