Assistant Professor of Art (Ceramics and Art History) Tenure-Track Position
Franklin College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor of Art to begin in August 2023. We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. Located about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis, we support purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual, and professional growth. The ideal candidate specializes in Ceramics and can teach Art History. Teaching responsibilities also include one intensive January term every three years and one First-Year Seminar every other year. Service responsibilities include but are not limited to academic advising, assisting with recruitment, participating in various campus art events and exhibitions, and supervising art majors completing ceramics internships. Ceramics Studio responsibilities include the maintenance and oversight of the ceramics studio, including clay mixing, potter’s wheels, electric kiln maintenance, kiln loading, and firing student work.
The following are required:
• MFA in Ceramics
• Evidence of their ability to effectively deliver college-level instruction in Ceramics—teaching beginning through advanced hand-building and wheel-throwing ceramics courses
• Ability to teach a selection of survey art history courses from ancient to contemporary art
This position is part of a college-wide cluster of searches designed to increase curricular coverage of areas related to diversity and inclusion, as well as to promote inclusive teaching strategies across the College.
