Artist Statement

My work explores the mediation experience through objects and images. Everyday objects and natural forms come together in an investigation of everyday life, identity and experience. Found objects, cast replicas and hand formed pieces ask viewers to consider the passage of time, the nature of memory and how materials influence the reading of narratives. Shadow and implied movement create added layers of visual perceptions of the work. The objects in the works are unmoored from their original contexts and presented as pieces within a larger tableau. Each viewer brings their own experience and relationship to these objects to their interpretation of the works.

As a plastic material, clay lends itself to recording the time and movements of the hand and body, drawing objects and images in clay is a way of transforming the ordinary. The teacups, bottles and cheap toys become meditative objects that retain the tactile marks of the time and process of making. Forms and images remain unfinished and sketched while retaining their specific reference. For me these act as metaphors for the nature memory and the ways in which we reform events and emotions across time and space.
