Artist Statement
I have had the privilege of working as an art therapy intern and volunteer in several child psychiatric hospitals for children under the age of 13. Most, if not all the children, suffered from a severe mental health illness/disorder. Many of them did not feel seen, heard, understood, and/or supported. My current body of work not only helps me make sense of these disorders and my experiences within the psych ward, but it serves as a way for me to heal and move forward. For many years I could not forgive myself and felt like a failure for not meeting the needs of the hundreds of kids I worked with.
