Artist Statement

My studio practice reveals a humorist absorbed by the hierarchy of image and the consequences of arrangement and installation.

As my sculptures move in and out of identifiable representation, their impact on narrative and composition changes. By rendering objects first as unrelated components, I keep the studio open to the material's influence on my subconscious. Content is ultimately approached as the components are combined in sequence. Absurdity is embraced as a celebration of humor and unpredictability. For this reason, color is flamboyant and fun. In my work, discovery dictates content.

It is the space between my sculptures that I am truly exploring. Within this space arise questions regarding hierarchy, narrative, and context. In my compositions, narrative is challenged and image is scrutinized. The precise Illustration in my mind is sarcastically un-illustrated into physical form.
