Lawrence Arts Center – Director of Visual Arts Education Opening

Lawrence Arts Center is seeking candidates to join our team who are inspired by our mission and have a desire to shape a visual arts based education program for youth and adults.

The Director of Visual Arts shapes the vision, philosophy and strategies of the visual art education and residency programs at the Lawrence Arts Center. This leadership role involves planning and implementing all visual arts educational offerings for ages 6 and up. The Director of Visual Arts is also the lead administrator of the artist in residency programs in Ceramics and Printmaking, as well as short term residencies in the visual arts. This is a full-time, salaried position with a flexible schedule. Benefits include: health, dental, 401K, Life Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Salary Range $45,000 – $52,000.

Responsibilities:

• Design all educational aspects of the Visual Arts Program.
• Manage residents, Visual Arts Program staff, and faculty.
• Supervise the implementation of all aspects of the visual art education program, including planning,
scheduling, and coordination of classes, workshops, and events.
• Administer all aspects of the annual residency program.
• Recruit, hire, and mentor a team of qualified art educators and teaching artists.
• Ensure faculty, staff and volunteers have the resources and support to meet educational goals and
maintain a positive learning environment.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive environment for children, families, adult learners, artists, and educators.
• Serve as the point person on collaborations between the education program and all other Lawrence Arts

Center program areas.

• Maintain high-quality lifelong art experiences through leadership and strategic planning.
• Lead Visual Arts Program staff, and faculty.
• Implement strategies that promote student engagement, retention, and achievement.
• Develop and manage the visual arts education budget.
• Build and maintain partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations to enhance
program visibility and participation.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience, in visual arts, arts education, arts administration
or a related field.
• 3-5 years in a leadership role in a community-based organization, arts center, museum or other arts
organization, including budgeting, financial management, record management, and ability to lead a
team of teaching artists.
• Experience teaching, including knowledge and experience with a diverse range of art forms and media,
and preferred experience with curriculum design for a non-academic learning environment.
• Strong time management skills and ability to manage complex logistics.

3 galleries, mainstage & black box theatres, dance studios, and an arts based kindergarten & pre-school
