Our Ceramics Residency program provides a supportive environment for emerging artists to create new work. Ideal candidates should have an MFA in ceramics or printmaking (or have equivalent professional experience), and be able to work independently as well as in a community setting. Preference is given to candidates who have demonstrated artistic excellence as well as interest in experimentation and innovative techniques.
Benefits include: $1500/month stipend, furnished housing, a studio space, $200/month towards utilities, $2000 towards professional development, free firings (plus certain materials), and 24-hour access to all studios, including ceramics, print, drawing, metals, photography, and digital media, plus a wood shop. Residents will have the opportunity to have a solo exhibition of their work in the Lawrence Arts Center gallery. The Arts Center will provide curatorial and technical support.
Residents will teach at least two classes per session (4 sessions a year) with opportunities to teach more. Residents perform 15 hours per week in studio maintenance. Maintenance of the ceramics studio includes assisting in loading/unloading and firing kilns, mixing glazes and slips, recycling clay, and providing general studio maintenance and upkeep.
