Method of Selection:
Selections are made from the digital images, so it is crucial that quality images be provided to
insure fair judging. The Gallery at Clay Studio of Santa Barbara reserves the right to reject, upon
arrival, any work of unacceptable craftsmanship and quality not discernible in the image.
Rules of Entry:
Artists must be 18 years of age or older. All forms of ceramic art are eligible for consideration.
There is a nonrefundable $30.00 entry fee. A maximum of three (3) works per person may be
submitted. Artists may provide two (2) images per work—a front, rear, or detail, etc. Work must
be original and prepared for exhibition (i.e., ready for hanging or other appropriate installation),
and must be reasonably adaptable to gallery installation. Artwork must not exceed 20″ for
freestanding pieces and 24″ for wall mounted work. Questions can be sent to: info@claystudiosb.org
Sales and Awards:
CSSB takes a 50% commission on works sold. One piece will be selected to receive a $500 purchase
award and remain in permanent collection of CSSB. First Place – $300; Second Place – $200; Honorable Mention; Clay Studio SB Purchase Award – $500

2024 Juror: Matt Mitros
Matt Mitros was born in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating from Penn State University in 2001 with a
BFA, Mitros completed a post-baccalaureate from the University of Illinois and holds an MFA from the
University of Washington. Mitros has been an Artist-In-Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts &
Crafts, the Archie Bray Foundation, and Red Lodge Clay Center. Mitros currently serves as the Executive
Director at the Clay Studio of Santa Barbara.
In 2008, Mitros was an Artist Trust GAP (Grant for Artist Projects) recipient funded by the City of
Seattle. Mitros was selected as a 2013 Emerging Artist by Ceramics Monthly. His work has been
featured in Art in America, Art LTD, Clay Times, Ceramics Monthly, Maake Magazine, and City Arts
Magazine, as well as the book 500 Figures in Clay. Mitros’ work is in the permanent public collections
of the National Museum of Slovenia, Bemidji State University, the Spartanburg Art Museum, the de
Young Museum, The Hudgens Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Museum of Florida State University, the
Everson Museum of Art, and others. He exhibits work internationally, and his sculptural work is
represented by Duane Reed Gallery (St. Louis, MO), and Galerie Lefebvre & Fils (Paris, France).
