The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art and Department of Art and Design are pleased to announce the Southern Miss Ceramics National, 2018, a juried exhibition of ceramic sculpture, ceramic vessel forms, and installation work by artists from across the United States.
AWARDS:
First Prize: $500
Second Prize: $300
Third Prize: $200
ENTRY FEE: $35 for up to three entries (two images per entry)
DEADLINE FOR ENTRY: June 15, 2018

ELIGIBILITY:
The Southern Miss Ceramics National is open to all US residents, 18 years of age or older. Entries must have been completed within 3 years of the entry deadline. Ceramic sculptures, installation work, and ceramic vessel forms are eligible. Mixed media works are eligible only if ceramic/clay is the primary medium. Individual components of ceiling suspended or wall mounted works should not exceed 20 pounds. Freestanding and pedestal displayed works must be stable. Delivery and installation of large-scale works, or works requiring specialized installation or assembly, may be required by the artist. Size (including crating) is limited to works that will fit through a standard door, 32 x 80 inches. All entries must be original works and available for the duration of the exhibit. Accepted works cannot be substituted.
JUROR: ANTHONY STELLACCIO
Anthony Stellaccio is a freelance artist and scholar educated in both fine art and folklore. A member of the American Folklore Society, the American Ceramic Circle, and the International Academy of Ceramics, Stellaccio works around the world as an artist, writer, researcher, film maker, curator, and educator. Most notable among his professional accomplishments are two US Fulbright grants, a book on Lithuanian folk pottery, two documentary films, more than thirty articles on contemporary and historic ceramics, a position as international coordinator on the board of Artaxis.org, three years spent serving the Smithsonian, National Museum of African Art, curation of Lithuania’s largest public folk pottery collection, and several years spent as a consultant for the Lithuanian Art Museum.
INVITED ARTIST: BENJIE HEU
Benjie Heu is head of Ceramics at Southeast Missouri State University. He holds an MFA from Ohio University, and a BFA from the University of Montevallo. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally in juried, invitational, and solo exhibitions across the country. Benjie Hue was the Best in Show winner for the 2016 Ceramics National.
