Ceramics Workshop with Tyler Quintin and Kyla Strid at Washburn University

October 8, 2026 by Brian

Workshop poster at Washburn University

The 2026 Artaxis National Juried Ceramics Exhibition opens at the Mulvane Art Museum on Tuesday, October 27. That same day, Artaxis members (and two of this year’s jurors) Tyler Quintin and Kyla Strid will lead a ceramics workshop in the Ceramics Studio at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

Tyler and Kyla will demonstrate their unique approaches to contemporary ceramics and talk about the skills, techniques, and thinking behind their studio work. Tyler is a long-term Artist in Residence at Red Lodge Clay Center and a 2016 Washburn BFA graduate, so this is a homecoming of sorts. Kyla is a potter, teaching artist, and Program Officer at Mid-America Arts Alliance whose functional pots draw on ancient Minoan forms and the plants in her own backyard.

Schedule – Tuesday, October 27

9 am – 1 pm: Demonstration, Art Building, Ceramics Studio, Room 120
1 – 2:30 pm: Lunch with the artists, Memorial Union
2:30 – 3:30 pm: Artist talks, Art Building, Ceramics Studio
5 – 7 pm: Opening reception for the 2026 Artaxis National, Mulvane Art Museum

At the reception, Sara Stepp, Director of the Mulvane Art Museum, will share remarks from the jurors, and Tyler and Kyla will announce this year’s award winners, including the Glenda Taylor Award.

Registration

The workshop is open to the public. Registration is $20 for anyone who isn’t a current Washburn student or employee: REGISTER HERE. Washburn students and employees can register for free by emailing Bobby Tso at Kwokpong.tso@washburn.edu.
