The Bachelor of Craft and Design program requires a full-time Professor for the Ceramics Studio. The Professor, in addition to teaching courses in the Ceramics stream, will be the Studio Head and will have responsibilities for the studio and program administration. As Studio Head, the Professor will work collaboratively to provide academic leadership as we role out the new
4 year degree program.
Responsibilities:
Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to the Studio and for courses within their areas of expertise. The Professor is also responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students by designing, revising, and updating courses, and working with the Program while respecting student’s diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experience, and individual learning styles. They also contribute to College, School and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies.
Professors are responsible for:
The design, revision, updating of courses, including consulting with program and course directors, other faculty members, advisory committees, and potential employers and students;
Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes;
Designing appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations and incorporating technology into the learning process where applicable;
Supervising the production of exhibitions related to studio curriculum and program events;
The promotion of the Ceramics program through consultation with peers in other academic institutions and in the professional ceramics field;
Maintaining an ongoing practice of personal work and exhibitions.
Professors also ensure that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques; provide individual tutoring and academic counselling; and evaluate student progress/achievement within assigned courses.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related field of study is required; formal studies in adult or higher education an asset;
Five years’ related professional experience and a broad range of skill in ceramic techniques and design processes;
Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in business or industry preferred;
Strong network of contacts with other professionals, agencies and employers;
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrable ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge to a broad range of students;
Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
An extensive Canadian, domestic, or international exhibition record is required.
Professional affiliations with craft societies/councils would be an asset.
