Artaxis.org will explore how the Internet’s decentralized and anti-authoritarian ethos impacts the collection and dissemination of ceramic artwork. Immersed in the physical works in the gallery, visitors will be encouraged to also participate by viewing and interacting with artworks created by members of the online group, Artaxis.org, which will be displayed on touch screens in the gallery. Viewers may choose to leave an image on the screen to be included (virtually) in the exhibition. By making their selection, visitors will challenge the traditional power balance between curator and viewer.
This exhibition, curated by Artaxis Board Member, Samuel Johnson, aims to highlight the dynamic contrast between new forms of dissemination and established forms, and to introduce Artaxis.org to Northern Clay Center’s community. Artaxis.org artists whose physical work will be included in the exhibition are: Brian Benfer, Heather Nameth Bren, Chris Campbell, Erica Iman, Roberto Lugo, JJ McCracken, Sidonie Villere, and Christina West.
