Tiffany Satterly ( she/her )

Artist Statement

My ceramic sculptures are a vehicle for cultural storytelling. Informed by growing up in Texas near the Gulf of Mexico, my work incorporates imagery such as western wear, piñatas, saltwater fishing, trucks, and popular entertainment typically associated with the working class like professional wrestling and country music. Inspired by the irreverence and accessibility of Funk ceramics, humor is employed to re-contextualize past experience within a contemporary framework, exploring the intersections of identity and class, both in personal memory and in broader cultural narratives.

My most recent work centers on ceramic sculptures of cars from my childhood in the 1990s. Through these familiar objects, I examine how cars become repositories for personal and family memory and markers of aspiration, place, and cultural belonging.
