The Department of Art at the State University of New York at Oswego announces the opening of a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Ceramics beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Description of Responsibilities:
- Primary teaching responsibilities include Introductory and Advanced Ceramics
- Secondary teaching responsibilities include 3-D Design and/or Sculpture
- Additional teaching responsibility includes expanding knowledge of diversity, historical, theoretical, critical and contemporary global/multicultural practices in the visual arts.
- Further teaching responsibilities include kiln firing, and management of a large ceramics studio.
- Departmental responsibilities include being involved with program planning, assessment, curriculum development, student advisement, and participation in department governance.
- University responsibilities include staying current on health and safety issues; participation in campus governance; commitment to research/creative activity.
In addition, this position will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- MFA with concentration in ceramics
- Teaching experience
- Experience in the field
- Record of presentations, exhibitions/projects, and/or publications in one’s area of interest that demonstrates commitment to a practice
- Digital literacy
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary and critical issues in visual art, the role of emerging media and technology in contemporary 2D, 3D and 4D art and design.
- Strong interpersonal skills, teaching and leadership ability, and a collaborative working style.
- Demonstrated innovative thinking in course and curriculum development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- University level teaching experience past graduate school
