The department provides a supportive environment for a versatile artist/teacher. The ceramics studio and kiln room is housed in a 7,000 sq. ft. building. There are 18 wheels, a separate glaze room, and other rooms for making glazes and raw materials. There are 2 gas kilns (Bailey and Marathon), a wood kiln, Raku kilns, and five electric kilns including a 20 cu. ft. Frederickson kiln. Sculpture occupies three lab areas: a main studio, wood shop, and a dedicated welding area. Digital fabrication can be performed on the various printers the college owns: three Creality CR10s Pro machines, four Ultimaker 3 machines, and a Formlabs 2 Resin Printer. A Computer lab outfitted with twelve iMacs, Wacom tablets, two small inkjet printers, a large format inkjet printer, and vinyl cutter are also available. Processes and practices that include digital renderings and output are emerging interests for the faculty and curriculum expansion.
We are especially interested in applicants who can teach, perform research with, and advise students of diverse backgrounds. Candidates who have experience teaching first-generation and other underrepresented student populations are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should demonstrate the potential for excellence in and enthusiasm for teaching, active creative scholarship, and a commitment to student advising and support. The teaching load is distributed 3/3.
We are an innovative art and art history department with an emphasis on interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Highlights include the Albion College Print Collections; the Philip C. Curtis artist-in-residence program; and two gallery spaces exhibiting six exhibitions a year in each gallery.
