Helene Kirchmair

Artist Statement

On the one hand, Helene Kirchmair places her focus on the interplay between form and surface, on the other hand, on the plastic implementation of conceptual discussions.

She integrates mixed media, as well as ready-mades and found objects with ceramics, which however always remains the predominant and preferred material.

The mostly trivial objet trouvè is not imitated, it gets transformed by a location change and material-transformation to an individual object and unique ceramic piece.

She takes things their original function, through their new function the objects get a completely new value and are put into a new context.

It's playing with being and appearance. With sense and nonsense.

Often graphic works - like drawings, photographs or etchings - complete the ceramic objects.
