Marywood University Art Department
The Department of Visual Arts at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, invites applications for a full-time tenure track position as Area Coordinator of Three-Dimensional Studies beginning in August 2016.
Responsibilities include teaching studio courses in area of specialty (sculpture or ceramics), and possibly three-dimensional foundation courses. The successful candidate is expected to have a thorough understanding and demonstrated background in materials and processes related to sculpture, ceramics, and jewelry. Masters level expertise in at least one area of professional studio practice is required. Other duties include: advisement, recruitment, area coordination, committee work, and department, university, and professional service, along with ongoing scholarship and creative work.
The Department of Visual Arts offers bachelors and masters degrees focusing on Studio Art (2-D, 3-D); Design (Graphic Design, Photography), Art Education, and Art Therapy. The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The Graduate Art Therapy Program is an American Art Therapy Association approved program. The three-dimensional facilities include: jewelry studio, wood studio, foundry for bronze and aluminum casting, welding, forging and metal fabrication, mold making, glass casting, slumping, and fusing, reduction (high) fire kilns, raku kiln, low fire kiln work, and glazing work area.
Marywood University is located in northeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 2 hours northwest of New York City and 2½ hours north of Philadelphia, Marywood University is an independent, comprehensive, Catholic University. The Department of Visual Arts resides within the Insalaco College of Creative and Performing Arts, which provides graduate and undergraduate degrees in the Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, and Communication Arts. Marywood was founded in the spirit of dedicated service and sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, PA.
Requirements
Educational:
Candidates must have an MFA degree in three-dimensional media, sculpture or ceramics. They should have a professional exhibition record and demonstrated scholarship and creative work at a high level. Teaching experience is required. Two years of full-time teaching experience is preferred.
